White Oriental & Green Singapore Orchid Wedding

Hot on the heels of the Vday rush we did this wedding for a truly lovely client. Beautiful white lilies with a hint of green Singapore orchids bordered with lush viburnum foliage.

Weddings are not our specialty, but one of the many things we do here at Adam's. A big thankyou to Linda from Harbour Town Florist too, for her help sourcing these particular white lilies, which came out just beautifully in the end.

How to care for your roses.

Roses can last you longer if you give them a little love. Simply put, flowers are just like us, they will last better if they have clean water, have the nourishment they need, and are comfortable.

When you receive a bouquet of roses follow these steps:

- Cut 2cm off the stem at an angle, this allows the stem to take water up better.

- Put straight into clean cool water, & if you have some, add a little flower food as per the directions.

- Position your flowers in a cool place out of the sun and wind.

- Change the water every couple of days, cleaning the vase.

When you receive an arrangement in floral foam follow these steps:

- Check they have enough water, & top up every couple of days, particularly in hot or dry weather.

We haven't had a chance to photograph all the different beautiful things yet but here's a little price and picture list of a few popular Valentine's products for you.

Classic Red Rose

There's always been something about the classic red rose. I wonder what it is, for surely it's more than just the years of conditioning and marketing we've all been exposed to. There must be a pure and innate symbolism, intrinsic and irremovable from the rose itself, there before anyone ever started buying and selling, something that speaks of life and love with a strong voice, not sweet or insipid.

Simple. Classic. Strong. The red rose has no substitute, no other flower has the same depth of meaning attached to it, the same history, nor world-wide appeal. V-day, dare I mention it, is just two weeks away, no matter how hard we try, no other flower is as sought after as the red rose. But really, what could be more appropriate, as even the name Valentine means strength, and St Valentine was a martyr for his faith, and that is no fickle love.

Bold Blooms

Here's some interesting ones for you...

We love native and tropical flowers, this selection includes Crab Claws, pin-cushion cordifoliums, anthuriums, Vanda, Spider and Singapore orchids, Ginger Beehives, luecadendrons,... and spray roses.

This week we have just got in some natural fibre wrap in many colours which we are excited to experiment with, and new Teddy Bears! How sweet they are. My favorites are a soft latte brown, and hold hearts where you can hide a little note. Also coming are helium balloons.

Our Selection

We always endeavor to have a variety of beautiful blooms for you and love to order in particular things for you if you have a special request. This week we have been advised that some of the growers have been affected by the floods, so certain flowers or colours may be in short supply. We will still be able to provide you with beautiful flowers, and if we don't have what you request we will certainly recommend an appropriate alternative. We know you'll understand, the growers and everyone else affected are in our thoughts.

Sweet Stefanotis

We don't usually have it in store, and it doesn't have the best lastability as a cut flower, but stefanotis will always be special, it has it's very own sweet fragrance and beautiful waxy white flowers. Most often it is used just as a hint through a wedding bouquet. It's flowering in the garden right now and has lots of buds, so it must love this summer's rain!

Just because we love it, Hydrangea is the flower of the day.

Almost Christmas

How exciting! Christmas is almost here. We'll try to post some happy things that we're doing with flowers for the occasion this week, but just in case we get busy and forget, here's a tropically-bright getting-Christmassy arrangement we did last week...

This one has in it Birds of Paradise, red Gerberas, Celosia, Anthurium, ginger beehive, oriental lilies, protea, as well as various lush leaves, small native flowers and bark.

We are excited as just today our new greeting card range, designed exclusively for us by LittleJojo, has arrived! Yay!
Our selection includes photos of nature, whimsical illustrations, as well as some hidden Gold Coast spots.
Hope you like them as much as we do...

Oh My!

Well, the bromeliads are now in, and we have to say it again, Oh My! and how Christmassy!
Did someone say Christmas! We'll all be humming carols now.

What else is in? You ask. Well, there's moss green and burgundy embossed paper, they tell me it's acid free so all you scrap-booking craftsters out there we stock it! Yay! just ask instore, it's $2 for a 50x70 sheet. Super!

And, that's not all, we have some other plants: a beautiful white Desert Rose, variegated Spathphillium, and some Caladiums (also very Christmassy).

in season now

One flower that gets requested for special occasions during the year is the peony. Most of the time it is not available, but PEONIES are now in season! They are one of our favorites for sure. Order in advance if you would like them, as colours come and go, and also, they come into the store as tight buds and take several days to open up.
Here's one just blooming that we had in store last week.
